From 21 to 23 October 2025, Lisbon will host the 9th edition of the MINEX Europe Forum, one of the most important events in the mining and critical raw materials sector in Europe. The event will take place at the Lagoas Park Hotel under the theme “Made in Europe: Securing Metals and Minerals for a Sustainable Future”.
Founded in 2015, the Forum fosters cross-border and cross-sector dialogue to unlock Europe’s mineral potential and strengthen its industrial autonomy. Over the years, it has been held in countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Austria, bringing together policymakers, companies, academics, and organisations to address the sector’s challenges and opportunities.
In 2025, the agenda takes on added significance following the approval of 47 strategic critical raw material projects by the European Union, in a global context market by competition for resources, export restrictions, and the urgent need to reduce external dependencies.
Battery Cluster Portugal’s General-Manager, Fernando Machado, will be one of the speakers in Session 3 – Powering the Future: Lithium & Battery Material Supply Chain in Europe, dedicated to lithium and battery matterials supply chains within Europe.
This session will address crucial issues such as:
- The fragility of current supply chains and high dependence on imports, particularly from China;
- Shortages of lithium, nickel, cobalt, and mangenese, coupled with environmental concerns and local opposition to mining;
- Regulatory barriers and fragmented policies hindering a coherent strategy;
- Trust gaps between industry and communities;
- The need to aligned technological innovation with sustainability and positive social impact.
The discussion will aim to present practical solutions to strengthen domestic production, de-risk supply chains, harmonise industrial and environmental goals, and position Europe as a global leader in responsible battery manufacturing.
Key topics at MINEX Europe 2025 include:
- Development of European supply chains for critical raw materials;
- Lithium and battery materials: challenges and opportunities;
- Implications of the joint purchasing platform for critical minerals and energy security;
- Europe’s mineral sector: a call for pragmatic regulation;
- Invisible mining: technological innovation to address EU raw material challenges;
