Battery Cluster at CALB project launch

Battery Cluster Portugal attended the CALB event in Lisbon today, February 24, reinforcing the partnership with its associate, and highlighting its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the battery industry in Portugal.

Battery Custer Portugal participated in the event organized by CALB in Lisbon, which officially market the historic investment in the construction of the battery factory in Sines. CALB, a member of Battery Cluster Portugal since 2024, is leading this project, considered a milestone for the European battery industry, representing an innovative investiment of around two billion euros, designated as a Project of Nacional Interest (PIN), with the expectation of creating 1800 direct jobs.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, the general director of CALB Europe, Sherry Wei, and the president of the Board of Directors of CALB, Liu Jingyu. According to the company, the economic impact of this project could represent more than 4% of the national GDP when it reaches full production capacity in 2028.

The participation of Battery Cluster Portugal reinforces the association’s commitment to promoting development and innovation in the battery sector, contributing to the energy transition and strengthening the national value chain.

The new CALB factory, which is due to start construction this year and be completed in 2028, will promote lithium batteries for electric vehicles, contributing to the advancement of sustainable mobility, an initiative that is in line with Battery Cluster Portugal’s strategic objectives of promoting the sustainability and competitiveness of national industry.
