On March 11, 2025, 36 participants gathered for an exclusive event for Cluster members to discuss the impact of the new European battery regulations. With the participation of Circulor, the topic of the digital battery passport was addressed, reinforcing the importance of the topic today, with the requirements that will have to be met by 2027.

On March 11, members of the Battery Cluster Portugal had the exclusive opportunity to participate in a webinar dedicated to the Battery Digital Passport, a regulatory milestone set to transform the sector in the European Union. The event was attended by 36 participants, reflecting the strong interest of the community in the crucial topic.

The webinar featured Circulor, a global leader in material traceability and sustainability, which provided key insights into the implementation of the digital passport. Drawing from its experience with major OEMs such as Volvo, Tesla, and Ford, Circulor highlighted the challenges and opportunities presented by its new regulatory requirement.

Among the main topics covered in the webinar were:

  • The importance of material traceability, essential for ensuring transparency and sustainability in the value chain.
  • The concept of the Battery Digial Passport, which will facilitate product lifecycle monitoring and promote a circular economy. From February 2027, batteries will be required to include a digital passport accessible via QR code, containing detailed information on origin, environment impact, and compliance.
  • Industry preparation for the evolving regulatory framework, ensuring that companies align with EU requirements.

Additionally, case studies featuring major industry players, such as Volvo and Polestar, were presented, showcasing how they have already implemented traceability solutions within their supply chains.

It is also noteworthy that Battery Cluster Portugal has signed a protocol with Circulor, strengthening the strategic collaboration between the entities to promote traceability and innovation in the battery sector.

The Cluster thus reaffirms its commitment to keeping its members informed and prepared for the changes impacting the battery sector, fostering events that drive innovation and compatitiveness in the European market.
