22 May, 2024

BEPA organised a webinar entitled 'What's next for Raw Materials Recycling', which took place on 22 May 2024, where speakers discussed the importance of research and the development of projects that ensure the supply chain for raw materials, but also the promotion of sustainability practices.

On May 22nd, BEPA organised the first webinar focused on SRIA issues, with the topic ‘What’s new for Raw Materials Recycling’, which was attended by more tham 250 participants.

After a short introduction by BEPA’s executive director, Wouter IJzermans, Bozorg Khanbaei, Policy Officer at BEPA, summarised all the priorities of the new ‘Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda’ that have been developed in BEPA’s working groups over the last year, focusing on the topics of raw materials and recycling.

During the panel discussion that followed, Jaakko Soini from Fortum, Marja Vilkman from VTT, Andreas Bratland from the Research Council of Norway, and the general manager of Battery Cluster Portugal, Fernando Machado, shared their perspectives and opinions on the importance of taking significant measures to support the security of raw materials in Europe, through support for innovation and circularisation.

In this webinar, Battery Cluster Portugal had the opportunity to share the national strategy, which is aligned with the strategy contained in the SRIA, as well as in the Raw Materials Act, and which is being developed not only by governmental entities, but also by private entities that are integrated into the Portuguese strategy. An integrated strategy focused on research, recycling and sustainable practices, aimed at strengthening the country’s competitiveness in the battery value chain and making a significant contribution to the green energy transition.
