CarMine – Recovery of Critical and Strategic Raw Materials from End-of-Life Electric Vehicles is a Horizon Europe project focused on developing innovative solutions for the recovery, recycling and valorisation of critical and strategic raw materials from end-of-life electric vehicles. By integrating advanced recycling technologies, digital traceability tools and circular business models, CarMine aims to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy in raw materials while supporting a more sustainable and resilient battery value chain.

  • Develop innovative processes for recovering critical raw materials from lithium-ion batteries and permanent magnets.
  • Demonstrate pilot-scale recycling solutions for end-of-life electric vehicles.
  • Reintroduce recovered materials into the production of new batteries and permanent magnets.
  • Implement digital traceability solutions, including the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
  • Assess the environmental, economic and social sustainability of the developed solutions, contributing to a circular and competitive European battery ecosystem.
